I really like my 038 but when one owns both and run them side by side very often then it does not take long to realize the 044 is the one to own if just keeping one saw. My 038 Mag shines when just bucking wood and not carrying it through the woods/bush for tree felling, the 044 is much better suited for that. My 038 was totally rebuilt by me, all OEM parts but it was a very low hour straight gas saw I picked up for $75. Best part was it came to me with a brand new OEM piston and cylinder installed, saw shop made a big mistake on that one as the tag on the handle read, saw requires a new P&C, carb kit and fuel lines, filter etc...:)
One does not be on this site and have just a one saw policy.. :wtf: I never will. :dumb: But I am conscious that this poor 044 might not get the use it deserves from me as it would someone else, or the 038 for that matter if I keep both. I am also aware that I will probably get 1/3 more for the 044 if not more that I would for the 038... and this money can go towards fueling my 60cc category or even a 90cc (for pure fun) ms362 or ms660 huztl builds.

I use this 2150 of mine for most things apart from bucking big rounds for fire wood.

I will go into a quick summary of my saw list purchase and bizarre sales and you will then realise that I do not make much sense...

ms170 sold it for ms210 sold it bought a Husqvarna 372xp sold it for ms290 (and a holiday) sold it for a ms260 and ms230 sold them for Husky 154/254xp sold it for Husky 455 sold it for THIS 044

And in the midst of all this I have the 038 mag, Jonsered 2150 and the ms231

Haha go figure....I regret a few of these sales..

I wouldn`t know anything about owning just one saw, I had over 75 saws before joining this site, actually owned 5 saws by the time I was 15 and now own over 100 and have worked over possibly every makers/ manufacturers saws out there. Still the happiest with my 7 different models of 044 and MS440 saws, cut hundreds of tons of lumber and firewood with them since the early 90`s.

If it's a Magnum keep it whether you sell the 044 or not. I've not owned very many of these saws but from what I've used I'd go with the 038.
It is the magnum in the other post. I just can't part with it... nor this 044 at the moment either.

So, you're going to sell a nice 044 for a hutzl kit?

That's just crazy. I'd take that 044 over a pile of aftermarket China parts any day.

I would only do this as there is currently nothing I need to do to this 044 and it is just sitting in the garage and not getting used.

I just want something to build on those nights in when the weeather is shite.

Do not get me wrong I am not trying to upgrade this 044..

Yesterday I was gonna go to my garage and get rid of all the stuff that I hadn't used for 20 years. I ended up with only a sackful of stuff, mostly old papers, a 2014 calendar and a dart board. I just didn't have the heart to get rid of perfectly good things that I didn't need but might some day...

Keep both saws
Then buy, for cheap, a seized husky 350 and put on a 346xpNE p/c from Spike60 and build away, have fun, scratch the itch, and have 3 really good saws!
