Afternoon everyone, I came across a saw that has a placard on it saying 242GXA with serial number 8550002. Trying to get information on the significance of the GXA as I've not seen that before and trying to decipher the serial number as well. Any help is appreciated.

I do have a post on another forum asking for help so if any of you guys are here also, I'm not trying to discredit your knowledge, just trying to reach a larger pool of members is all. Thanks a bunch.

g is for heated handles and xp for extra power (what they called their professional models for a while
ser# tells us made in 1988 or 1998 i think 1998 but next two numbers tell the week made- there are only max 52 , not sure about the 55? could be a typo?

That's what a lot of guys have said, but they're leaning towards maybe a prototype model? Idk man, trying to figure it out

I think that you are off by a couple of decades. Unless Husky changed their serial number format this saw was made in the 50th week of 1985.

OP, Have you checked Acres internet site for this model?

I agree with you but every site lists the 242 starting in '87/'88. Yes sir I actually emailed mike earlier today cause his site doesn't list it either

That makes it a whole lot clearer about what we are looking at.
The 242 certainly came as a G model, with the G for generator. But, I believe they were just G and not GXA- maybe the XA was a little used moniker before XP?

Must be some sort of prototype or something. Possibly an import from another market? Wonder if you contacted husqy is they would be of any help?
I contacted husky US and UK, neither can find anything in their historical records regarding a GXA model. So kind of a dead end there too

Maybe so, not sure. Still gonna dig and see if anyone has seen one before or has information on why it is the way it is. It's interesting. Especially the different model and serial number would predate any other 242 if it in fact reads the same way. Thanks for the input Bob

Here are some additional photos. The top cover was made in 87, handle assembly in 86, case is 86 I think and pulley assembly 86 also. Can't find any other dates.

It's a 1988 saw. The plastics clearly state they were produced in 1987. If I had to guess, As for the week 55 designation, I would say the engraver messed up on the I.D. when he set the type for the serial number, but who really knows?

I wonder if @SawTroll could shed any light on this mystery saw?
