OK, where can I buy online good chain. I think I would prefer Carlton or Stihl. I have been reading all the posts here and that seems to be where people are leaning. Oregon is the largest supplier but I think I want to avoid it.

Google hasn't turned up much. I think I have a somewhat odd ball size requirement.

I need 3/8" 72DL .058

I think I want one Semi-chisel and one Chisel.

Its for a Husqvarna 372xp with 20" bar.

My local Stihl dealer doesn't sell any .058. No one sells Stihl chain online. Jacks Small Engine sells Carlton Chisel, not semi, in 3/8 only. semi in .325.

Baileys doesn't list Woodsman (Carlton right?) online when I called the sales rep wasn't too helpful. She did say that "had a few left" in .058 but wasn't certain as to the cutter style.

So, am I crazy to avoid Oregon? Do I have an odd ball chain type? Where can I get a loop of chisel and a loop of semi from one source, online, at a good price?

Didn't check ebay. Bailey's wasn't much help. I'll keep up my quest.

Howdy,
We carry a pre-pachaged loop that is full comp, round ground chisel. It's manufactured by Carlton.
WPL 20 38RC72 01 20" CHAIN LOOP (058 HUSKY) 38RC 72 DL $11.95ea

We don't carry a full comp, semi chisel in .375x.058. My only suggestion would be to purchase:
WP375 38RP 01 D.L. 375 X 058 RIPPING CHAIN $0.20 per drive link
The only difference between the two is that the ripping chain comes with a 10 degree angle instead of 30 degrees. It would be slower cutting at first but, after a couple of sharpenings you'll have what you want.

I can't think of any reason not to go ahead and get a loop of the Oregon chain. I've got both Oregon and Bailey's Woodsman pro chains. Neither one cuts nails worth a damn, but in good wood I don't think you could tell one from the other.

I really like dealing with Bailey's! I have switched over to using nothing but Woodsman Pro chain If you lived were I live you would know why price! I am not going to pay $30.00 For a loop of 18 or 20'' 3/8th chain. Plus with are dollar being worth more now it is even cheaper. And the best part I prefer the W.P chain to Oregon, a little more aggressive and the same to sharpen the same as far as hardness

Bailey's is GREAT to deal with. If they don't have then likely no business will. If I were you I would a new bar and chain in .050. It will make your life alot easier in the future.

Edit: Just don't buy their green wedges IMO.

Uh, Oh. I do like Bailey's green wedges. I am also pretty green when it comes to using them.

I deal a lot with cutters choice. They are based out of Erie PA, my hometown. Their own Laser brand is manufactured by Carlton, and I have had very good luck with it. I know a lot of people don't like Carlton, but it seems to last longer than Oregon. I haven't tried the Stihl chain yet, but will in the future. www.cutterschoice.com

I like Stihl chain better than anything. I have some Carlton, and like it, but just my opinion Stihl chain gets the nod except price.

That seems to be the consensus on this site. I haven't had to buy new chains for a while, but the next one will be a stihl. I don't know how I will feel about a stihl product though.

Want me to post a picture of a 3120 with a Stihl bar and chain?

Stihl and Carlton too. Another vote.

I don't think my heart could take it, I don't want to die a young man. I do appreciate stihl making a good product and I can't hold that against them. My next chain will be a stihl, but that doesn't mean I won't go to bed thinking that my saws are hating me.

I am not familiar with stihl chain at all. I need a .325 semi chisel, so is that the RMC? All of this talk has got me itching to try a new chain, so I am going to drive the 40 miles to the nearest stihl dealer tomorrow.

Thanks!

Thanks for all the tips. Cutters choice had the 3/8 .058 72dl in chisel and semi-chisel right on their site plain as day. I called to confirm and ask what brand it was (Carlton or ???). "No problem, you have a Husky right?" I didn't get treated like I had two heads for looking for the chain with my specific specs. No filing something to make it into something else. Took my order over phone and promised to get it in that days outgoing shipment. Price was reasonable too. I hope to give them a whirl on Saturday if they get here by then otherwise I will be using my Husky chain with my amatureish sharpening applied.

Thanks again
