There is a lot of information instantly available on the internet on this subject. Having owned and worked in this field for 30 years I recommend educating yourself on the various facts and opinions and see how they vary. Not going to contradict anyone's opinion here. I strongly encourage adding chokers and a snatch block to your kit. Not all pulls are straight-line possible. Power is not always the answer.
I didn't know I gave the impression I needed to go out and get more blocks, shackles, straps, slings, spreaders etc. I have plenty. Thanks.

Yes this may be possible, I'll have to get under it and have a look. If that cross member isn't heavy enough I can add one that is. Great idea.

The channel the mount is in, is actually higher then the tongue so ground clearance isn't an issue.

I like it. Always have tons of binders and cargo chain laying about.
Still gonna crawl underneath and investigate how much of a pain it will be to tie it in underneath.
I'm a visual person, so I get lost in all the description. I need pics to understand. So whatever you decide, let us know. I see another possibility other than the one I suggested, but it may have been suggested already, I'll wait and see.

Rode hard and put away wet. He must have figured the extra oil wood protect it. Nice find.
I agree on that part about ridden hard. When I pulled the clutch cover all this crap fell out of there. Then I saw the mess and started laughing. It was like, you gotta be kidding me. I think he was using it at ground level getting rid of scrub brush or something.

Ok so first picture. I circled where the flex is.

I had the winch drawn down pretty hard with it hooked to the back of the trailer. I don't think it will be an issue unless I actually need full or near full power of the winch. Im.more worried about the fatigue the channel is under constantly flexing. More bracing, like you and other suggested would take care of this.
The problem is I'd like to keep some space open for a box. 80% of the time I have my truck, so I don't really need a box for stuff but it gets towed with other vehicles as well that don't have a loaded tool box. Just want a few odds and ends. So @singinwoodwackr suggestion of going front is quite Interesting. As it should help and not take up tongue space. Kinda like the second pic.

And as another said I can always just chain it fast to the hitch with a binder. Which would be quite easy with some chain and binders.

Hi guys, they’re expecting 25 below here plus high winds overnight. A couple of the school districts have canceled classes, but ours has not. I’m going to work regardless.
I'm going to work too but in my garage where the heat is set at 60. Sunday will be 40. Today it is 17 this morning with wind chills below zero.

I think you need support going forward to the tongue to keep that area from flexing. Your choice on using chains and a turnbuckle or welded channels to the front.

Thanks for your extra effort to make it clear in my mind. I was only hoping for a pic of the final product.

I like this idea better. Seems like it would provide better support.

When you get done with your trailer, can I bring mine by and have you fix it up  ? I'm making zero progress on mine.

Are they fair game with a regular hunting license, or is there some kind of permit/quota system?
Hunting license, tag, 3 month season on public land, year around on private. No quota yet, supposed to have any wolf harvested checked in at fish & game. We are over ran with them, deer/elk numbers are way down and they are killing cows on private land, and peoples dogs. A lot of the cows they kill they (wolves) don’t even eat any of them.

I'm scroungin up a new to me truck, kinda. And this is the room where I feel I might get the best answers, so, lets get it started on a new thread highjackin?

I'm replacing my 03 Yukon XL with 170 K on it, largely due to some rust popping up in a couple of places I dont want to go fixing, and the entire front end is worn (wore) slap out of it. My last 05 Tahoe I sold before this had 275 k on it, and never had any troupble execpt the roof rack rust that sent it packing.

I tow my ASV RC 30 on my dump trailer on the weekends ~5000#, with no trailer brakes. I am very happy with the 5.3 v8 and trans that they pair it with usually in the Suburban and Yukon, so I am leaning towards an off lease with 50k anywhere from 2017 to 2020, around $36 to $42k.

For grins, I looked at some Silverado and Sierras, and notice a 6.,0 v8 in some, and IL6 3.0 diesels, but not seriously- I am FAR too lazy to put tools away. For instance. I have been having to do some carpentry of late, so I have circ saw, Sawzall, drills plus my usual disc golf stuff in it, and I barely can fit a passenger in the front. Next week Ill empty it, and put in tools realted to landclearing and wood scrounging, and they will be safe in the back locked up out of sight, until i need to switch back to building things tool collection. Not buyng a diesel. and dont need to get away from the super reliable 5.3 and 4L60?

This new to me? I will NOT put chainsaws inside it. If I have to tote them and I'm not trailering, they wil go on a hitch rack. I do lkke to be able to throw a super single futon in it and camp when the weather permits.....

Any thoughts on the 6 liter gas engine? (Though, I dont see it in the Yukonos or SUbirbans either)

Any thought on the 2016 to 2020 Yukon or Suburban relaibility?

I have cash, but will buy a aftermarket Warranty. and Gap insurance by cleverly using my line of Credit to intially purchase, then use my cash to pay it off- Gap coverage is important to me- saved me when I had a 6 month old brand new truck stolen and burnt to the ground. I had no equity in it, I had turned in a leased (business) truck, and paid no money down.

Just had a thought I can extend down as well and tie into the tongue from the uprights to the lower 2 channel as well.

Sure, I'd bet I'm as slow.as you though lol. Been putting this off for over a year now.

Just puttering in the garage huh? :innocent: View attachment 1054602

That's me lol. Only with my logic, can I justify 1000's of $ in machinery to spend a couple hours milling/turning a little aluminum part that I could've just bought for $35...and it didn't actually have to be replaced. Meanwhile, important projects remain unfinished.

Good morning, -28 on the house this morning but others had -36 out in the colder areas. Being on a lake we are usually spared a few degrees.

The winds did die down overnight. A number of schools cancelled in anticipation of severe wind chills but ours did not.

It is supposed to be 42 on Wednesday. I think I am going to take the day off to be outside.
