I've had 4 or 5 of them, starting with the one I bought new in 1982. All of them were good, but certainly not a powerhouse by today's standards!

6.5's were plagued with thatdam electronic injection pump that failed all too often! Not all of them had that though.

I had a 95 6.5. Two or three lift pumps and a new injector pump, finally found the real problem was the FSD. Chevy mounted it at the back of the engine on top of the manifold and the heat would crack it. Once the fsd was moved away from all the heat, no more problems. FSD cost around $50, took 15 min to change. New injector pump was around $1800 and took a day to change. Which one did the dealer want to change?

That's the deal I don't have a whole lot of stuff to grease, just the tractor, mill, and backhoe..... I just want something simple that works on demand.

I went ahead and ordered a new alemite lever gun off evilbay for $35 hopefully it will actually function.....
If not, I'll come back and tell y'all how cheap and dumb I am.... :omg:
All I have at home is a regular old lever gun, more than adequate for a couple vehicles and a few small pieces of equipment.

I had forgot about that, now that you reminded me, I do remember hearing that, that was a pretty good fix. My buddy plows snow with a 6.5, it looks like he!!, but it's just a plow truck now.

Whatever you feel is best for you. I got an electric because they are fast a hassle free. Do I really need one? Probably not. However,
I've never seen a manual pump gun work 100% , 100% of the time, and they seem to always fail when your in a tight spot. Air locks in grease guns @#$#&% suck @$$ !!! Probably the only time I really get irritated is when a grease gun fails! 👎👎

Will it do it pulling 12k also though is the question? I'm not a fast driver to begin with and we don't have highways on the Island.
Yes, it will...... very, very slowly.
Those old trucks rely on gearing to pull the load.

I'm no expert...mostly just making noise....

That's a lot of weight for a 350 IMO. It'll probably do it, but will be ungodly slow and will get crap fuel mileage...hopefully no hills to traverse either.

Hills?🤔
Well KK, you can cross the 5.7 GM dumb bed off the list of possibilities!👎🤣

It'll do it, hell...they used to haul old-growth out of these hills on trucks with less power than that, but will be really underpowered by modern standards.

It's probably overweight, but one of my tree-biz buddies runs a Dodge 3500 with a dump bed(8' though) with the 5.9 common rail and a 6 speed manual...4wd too. He also tows equipment with it...chipper or skidsteer in a dump trailer. He needs to put an exhaust brake on it IMO, but it's actually a good little tree truck. Just another option IMO, although a lot pricier than what you're probably looking at.

How about converting this into a flat bed for hauling and towing?
7.3 PS F450 SD standard transmission.

That's an option. It's going to take a lot of steel, but you could even build a dump bed for it. Just do what the tweakers around here do, go dismantle steel bridges out in the timberland/forest for the steel lol.

There are many factors when it comes to price, but I do have a budget. Just like most of us.
