I have just bought a new 346XP and a new CS2171. Should I put non-cat mufflers on them and where are they available from/price? Thanks for any help.

I don't think the 2171 has a cat but it can't be any slower.:)

Check to see if your 346 is a "e-tech". The gas cap will be green and the starter housing will be labeled "e-tech" if so. That would mean it has a cat muffler....

First step: Make sure you have a cat on them in the first place!

You don't have one on the 2171 as a matter of fact, and there's a chance you don't have one on the 346 either.

There was a thread posted a few weeks/months ago as to how to tell whether or not the new 346 had a cat...you might look that one up and see.

When I get my 2153, it will have the cat unceremoniously ripped off and thrown in a dumpster.

Enjoy that saw combo...that's what I'll have as soon as the 2153 lands stateside!

slow brain fast fingers

I guess I typed before I thought. My CS2171 has more power than I need as it is, that thing is STRONG! My 346 is not an e-tech. I'll go back to sleep now.

My new 346xp 50cc does not say e-tec but it did have a cat muffler and a green cap. Bailey's has the replacement muffler for $36.00 just bought one.

stir the pot.......

Well, I be dayumm. That was how the old 346 was "indentified", I thought.

Why not just buy a ms260 and not have to worry?:hmm3grin2orange: :hmm3grin2orange:

Stihl camp zombie, I like the sound of that!!! I have to agree with 2000 here that you guys really want a ms260 or oldie but goodie 026 classic!!! Then you will have a saw that lasts for years and won't have that cat issue!!!:greenchainsaw:

I unloaded my 026 for this saw. and IMO it is a better saw for my money. $ for $ it is a better deal.( PS the mother in law is a classic but I ain't going out looking for a new one of those either)

LOL at the mother in law!

Don't take me wrong, I think the 346 and 5100 are great saws. I have 2 026s and they get the job done, quick too. They may be expensive but you know they are built like a tank. Maybe after Tom's review I will change my mind. :chainsaw:

I'm gonna hold out for the 261 though, just to kick Dr. Wood and bookerdawg right in da mouth.

Oh, and Nanny too, I'm sure I have a stock saw around here somewhere.....
