hey all, not looking too good with repairing my poulan 2150.....say whatever 10yrs still ran like new until a month or so......got a diaphragm on order, but if that dont work i think I'm just getting another saw fast... but money is real tight and i dont want used for fear of inheriting anothers problems. I dont do a ton of cutting, just a few trees/cords for the stove.
want my dang saw!
but if i cant i see the sears and poulan are the same unit from Husq.... and the plastics are way crudder then my '97 model.. and cheaper price ?? somehow.

want a 16", light weight, rear handle.

I saw ACE had poulan pro3816 @ 174. maybe i could shop it. havent see it up close. is it better?
I read the POSTS on the ECHO's on ebay... thinking about that... but would rather have a place to return if there are issues... and the cs346 what i want but too $$. right now.

I see Homelites cheap.. they are crap right?

anything you all know of.. or should i just buy another poulan?

i understand what your saying, but isnt one better then another? much as my poulan was considered a throw away/junk saw.. it took 10 yrs of decent trees, abuse, falls, and still always started without fail... never a repair or problem. its just now the even the better model poulan seems much crappier quality .

didnt love the wildthing, but again i guess i hear what your saying.
appreciate your response man thanks

Ebay and look at ryobai saws. They're OK from everything I've seen for occasional use. Plus they're new and right at your price range. It's been compared to poulan and won but dunno who really makes it. It's just a suggestion

Find a Poulan Pro and buy it, after all how many trees could you possibly need to cut on Long Island?

thats the truth... i just want a decent quality, dependable saw to cut up trees for firewood....gotta get to ace and check the poulan pro out.

The real truth is, you really can't get a decent quality dependable saw new for $150 unless you get real lucky.

Mine was dependable dang it! started everytime.. never cutout/stalled : (
once downed an cut 11 pines in an afternoon, never quit (yes thats a lot for me)
you list a homelite-- good saw?
i see the poulan pro ~140-170. think i may go that route.. its been good to me in the past.
i dont need daily, just seasonal.

I absolutely love my homelite saw. It's a truly amazing piece of work. I've downed countless mesquite trees with it for it's 30+ year life. I've downed oak and pine among others. It was my baby firewood saw until the dolmar I have. You would probably like a small homelite if you can find one. Good luck whichever route you go.

You might be able to get a good hand saw(new) for $150 or less!! anything with a motor (new) will be junk!! good luck!!

moondoggy,
Do yourself a favor brother, Go to e-Bay, there is a guy on there who sells Makita DCS 401s for 209.00. I bought one last fall and it is all that, for its size. It will run circles around the Poulan and warranty work is available at any Makita dealer. I know it is a little higher than what you wanted to spend and believe me I've been there all my life, but don't be penny wise and pound foolish.

Another thread was saying that Home Depot was closing out a Ryobi saw that is supposedly the same as the RedMax GZ4000. I saw them at our local store for $165 (I think). Have also seen on the net for less, but many are rebuilt. The ones at HD were new in box, including case, etc.

ok went to lowes today... saw the poulan pro 3816 .....139.00. kind of heavy, cruddy quality.
then i saw the Husky 142 .. 199.00..wow.... much nicer saw.. lighter too.liked it until i came back and read some reviews here...i assume the 137 is just as bad..? I mean i just need occasional/seasonal... 3-5cords/yr

if i can scrape out another $50.bucks....(which aint easy)
what you guys think:
i really want 16" bar-
echo cs-306... I know the push is on for stihl from most you guys..
i still need to see the MS-170 in person... how much $ is it if i want to change to a 16" bar/chain next year?

sorry to ramble.. but my wife and work buds dont give a crud.....

Go to Home Depot and see if they have the Ryobi 40cc,mine came with 18" b/c. It is Red Max clone with strato technology. I got it for 159.00, way better quality than Homelite or Poulan. In fact build quality is more like Echo. It has 2.45hp, 13,000 rpm, pro AV system and a 2 year warranty. I put a 16" b/c on mine and it is perfect, only weighs 9.5 lbs. It has aluminum crankcase, internal inertia brake and lot more features that are on the pro saws. I don't think you can find better for that price.

P.S. Takes the same bar and chain as Poulan and many others, so you could use your 16" b/c.

i gotta look for that ryobi... didnt see on line or at my HD. I will hit up another one. (there are of course 4 HD w/in 20 minutes of me)

and another +1 for the echo.. i appreciate it.. still want to see it up close.

If you could up about 50.00 more you could possibley get a stihl 180. if not i believe I would get a poulan pro. I think you can buy a 38cc 16" bar for about 140 to 160 . You might as well get a decent chain for it right off the bat. Good luck.:greenchainsaw:
