I like the 7900 of the bunch the best.

It outcuts the 460 and 385, has heavier tensioned A/V springs than the husky.

It weighs about half pound or maybe even a full pound more than the 046/460 once it is full of fuel and oil. It looks lighter on paper....

The 372 is a good light 70cc saw, but lacks the grunt to run the bigger bars. It is kinda like a turbo charged 4cyl. It will wind out to the moon, but if you slow it down and try to do a dead stop start, the 7900, 460, 385 all have more of the big block V8 kind of torque.

Who ever has the modded 372 that runs a 32" bar and it outcuts everything on the planet needs to sink it in bigger wood, that will slow it down. Making claims like that just makes you look bad. a 372 will run a 32" bar but..... I put a 28" bar on my 5100 once........

Or............go back to the woodshed!!!

I would have to agree that the 7900 dolmar cuts good but the av mounts are stil flimsy compared to the 385. when i traded the 7900 in the new springs were so flimsy that the dealer thought the mounts were broke. i replaced the mounts the day before they were oem parts. The saw looks good on paper but in the real world I dont think it does . I will stick with husky or stihl atleast when i need apart i can get it when i need it.

I cant say the av is flimsy on the 7900 mine seems fine!
Now the ms280 is a different story if they were any softer they would be made from sponge!

MS 660 with a full comp chisel on a 28-30" bar, all the saw you will ever need in this range and more saw than you usually need but will last longer than a saw that has to work hard to pull the chain in hard woods on longer bars. My two cents worth. Pioneerguy600

get the 372xp before it's gone again.

In retrospect, I would have liked a 346NE and a 372/575NE. I guess I am just one gauge bigger though. I use the 357 all day though. It is a very good compromise.

To me, i don't know if it makes sense to mod the 57 and get a 390 or 660 or 7900, or just get a 372xp and leave it alone. I don't like stihl offerings in the 70 cc class.

this is the last year in the US.also look at the ms460 and you cannot go wrong with the 7900.

skip the ms441 and the 575xp.

ms 660 and the 390 xp are great saws as well.

I think the Dolmar 7900 is a little more powerful than the 441, but there aint a damn thing wrong with the 441. Its not the cheapest 70 cc saw out there, and maybe for good reason. The only reason I traded mine was because I have the saw bug so bad I want every saw made, but cant afford that. So on occasion I trade a saw when the deal is right.

I would tell you if you need a bigger saw, get a bigger saw.

Stihl MS660

and also the Solo 681 is a player in this game too...

I love my 357xp, but I want a saw to handle the big wood in my area. I usually run a 20" bar with the 57, but would like to go down to an 18" and get a bigger saw with a 24-28" bar for the big wood.

I don't care which brand you recommend. Stihl has a pricey, but good dealer nearby, and Husky has a good dealer about 20 miles away. I am interested in Dolmar too.

What saw, what cc range? I am a big guy, so a little weight is ok.

Boney,

You need a Dolmar 7900. It's just what your looking for. Some fine deals out there too. Hard to beat! I'll PM you with one.

Man, the advice and different viewpoints are much appreciated. I've come to the conclusion that I want more than one new saw:cheers:

For now, I think I want to get something that can cut faster than my 357xp in 20"+ hardwood, and then add a big saw later.

On my list now: 372xp, 7900, 460 mag. I need to go see my buddy with the 460 and see if I can cut something:chainsaw:

i had a 357xp as well.

i loved the saw.not a damn thing wrong with it.

after i got the NE 346 and since i already had the 372s,i never used it.was kind of a stone that always got skipped.i kinda miss it sometimes.maybe i'll get another.the new 346 is a ripper.i love that little saw and i run 3/8 stihl RSC on a 16" bar.372 is my favorite though by far.i had a 7900 for a couple weeks and it's a great saw but the 372 just felt more solid and i can get parts asap. the ms460 is another excellent saw.very well made and comfortable in the hand.

the 441 is just a copy of the 372 but the oiler is choked out and it's heavier than the husky.the 441 we had fell on it's face with anything or a 20" bar.as i said before,it may have been a dud.

Uht ohhh Sounds like a three saw plan to me. :D

MS260/MS460/MS660

346/372/395 if ya gotta.

5100/7900 oops sorry dolly you're gonna have to sit this one out.

Might as well go ahead and get all the bar's too, you know you're gonna eventually.

16", 20", 24", 28", 32", and a 36" if ya just gotta have it, all 3/8's x .050 gauge so they'll all fit on any of the saws. Never know when ya might wanna run the 16" bar on the 660 just for fun. ;)

I have to agree. I bought a 5100 about a month ago and had some carb issues off the bat. the dealer made it right and I commend him for it but the stability is not there, we run stihl and husq most of the time and I have to say there is no comparison. The Dolmars cut fast but they feel sloppy.

I have a Poulan Pro 505,which I believe is the same as a 2083 Jonsered. This saw is on the heavy side, and aint what you would call a speed demon, but it does have loads of power and seems to be built pretty good.I know these saws have discontinued, but I saw some new leftovers on the net about a year ago for about $500.Not bad for a saw of this size. But I believe if I had to make a choice for a bigger saw,Id go with a 460 Stihl.

The 460 is a darn good choice. My stihl rep has a 650 that I have been eyeballing for a-while but havent pulled the trigger yet.
