261 Huskey Fix Or Not ??

FRriend comes in shop with 261, says wont start worked it hard with 24''bar in 36'' wood sat it down an it died wont start. I checked comp was only 50 lbs,pulled mufflar, this is what i saw piston had small ding in top right side with scoring,looked at mufflar gasket about 1/2'' missing looked at mufflar and heat shield,markes showed gasket was sitting on top of mufflar bolts not on them this gasket in wrong had covered about 1/3 of exust port,gasket had broken off and entered p/c,Ihave not pulled jug yet but will prob need new p/c.this saw has low hrs & looks good is it worth new p/c?? PS he said the mufflar has never ben off the saw could this have happened at the factory??????????????

Yes its worth fixin. You can get a aftermarket 262 p&c for a little over $100 for it.

Pm me if he dont want to fix it and wants to turn it loose. '

I have been sittin on a good cyl for one.

Go with the 262XP P&C and build yourself a great saw, one of the best upper-mid range offerings.

Definately worth replacing the P&C if saw in good shape.

Not sure how it would run a 36" bar, it uses the small bar mount and no one makes a bar that big for that pattern as far as I know.

Whoops, I misread it as a 24-36" bar. Too much Blatz
