288 xp light rebuild

ok guys my first rebuild so dont be to hard on me! use to have a 288xp a long time ago so i know what they are like to run! so i will be asking lots of questions and i take lots of pics!

so saw idle s but starts to cut out then it revs all the way and i shut it off.

this thing has oil every where what should i check first?

Are you sure it needs rebuilt? Have you taken a peek through the exhaust port yet to see what the p/c look like?

Sounds like the L screw needs a half turn or a carb kit. What psi she blow?

Can't tell in your pictures, are you missing the bar plate? As far as the oil goes I would first see where the oiler is set, maybe set to high fro the bar length.

it does have a bar plate. how do u check the oiler? didnt check psi

in those last pics i had cleaned it and put it back together and there was this much oil just after running for a minute. what is that gold colored scren and what does it do? thanks guys!

I assume it is the vent for the oil tank?

Yah, that plug is sintered bronze and is the vent.

Can you give a better detailed pics of the piston and cylinder through the exhaust ports?

ok did some reasearch and found out how to adjust the oiler. does the oil vent plug ever go bad?

should i be woried about the broken fin?

It won't do immediate damage, but I would be looking for another one.

Don't stress over one broken fin, I imagine someone was lazy whey they were pulling the clutch...

Piston looks great. Dont tear it down unless it fails a leakdown/vac test
