I’d be going over all of your thousand grit areas with some 120 so sealer has something to bond to. It’s no different than having machine marks on the piston to hold oil

You really should have quoted what @huskihl said so he would see your response. That hack has a lot to learn about saws.

All I’m trying to say there is gaps between the securing screws. You might want to check it.

Note that JB Weld even recommends roughing the surface a little before applying the bond. It needs something to grab a hold of.

Flat is good, but lapping to 1000 grit is, well, not anything I would do on a chainsaw.
Personally I just sand over the surfaces with a 240 grit, max 360 grit, most sealants need to have a tad ruff surface to bond properly.

I don’t like filling gaps with yamabond. The bottom that goes towards the crankcase was smooth originally. Still is now only flatter. The top side was rough milled where the gasket goes.

The huztl one cleaned up quicker. Maybe the orginal one was warped more from the heat.

With the cylinders once there assembled and run through a few heat cycles do you retorque the cylinder bolts? I ask this because on the dirtbike engines we retorque the cylinder base after a few heat cycles. If we don’t it can suck in the base gasket on the cylinder.
