That would be inline with the gains from a port job. In racing, that is not close.

I agree but that 362 out in the woods would pass ya once broke in. That little bit of time in racing can be taken up quick with a chain. A stock 362 running that close to a ported 361 is impressive, you can't argue that.:D

Every report so far has been impressive. Where the 361 screams with HP, the 362 seems to scream with torque. I'm looking forward to running one but don't know when I will. I need another saw like a hole in my head.:dizzy:

I find it more interesting what a saw can do above max hp rpms than way down below.

Both are about torque, but at different rpm levels!:givebeer:

Low end torque is only interesting when the saw is marginal for the task at hand.

Oh no, I won't argue with that. The 362 runs great for sure. I'm anxious to try porting one. I believe Andy ran the same chain that both 361s ran for that cut.

From what I've seen the 362 is all torque. The 361 is kind of peaky imo. One of the reasons I sold my 361, great saw though.

Anybody run a stock 361 to compare?

Interesting how it seems that the 361 is "peaky" and the 362 is "torqey".

This isn't the best comparison, but in comparing my 7900 to the westspartans 441 that's the difference I noticed. The 441 seems to SCREAM with hp, but the 7900 definitely has a lo more torque. But I also do know what I was comparing - Stihl, Dolmar, 70cc, 79cc. I'm more or less talking about my observation of the 441, I've never run another strato saw before....

My reason for bringing this up is it seems (based on my observation of the 441 and what others are saying about the 361/362) that the 361 and 441 run very much alike - And just maybe we'll see a lot more of that torque in the future 442....

Just a guess though. Any thoughts on that?

I would have expected the 441 to act more like the 362 than like the 361, as they both are "strato" designs - but I haven't tried....

From these times, it looks VERY close to a ported 361. A few more tanks of fuel for the rings to seat and that saw will out run a ported 361. Very impressive.

Not too sure where these stats came from....my 262xp should be on that list too in front of the 362....

Gotta respectfully disagree. The 361 and 441 are nothing alike in performance. Not just talking the cc difference which is obvious. Now the 441 and 362 are the same - the power diff.

Your 262 is also one of the greatest 60cc saws made by any company. I had a line on one up in the U.P of michigan in the saw store that time forgot but it was gone by the time I got there to get it. Brand new with 5 inches of dust setting on the shelf.

It could be me then. Remember I'm comparing my comparison of the 361/362 and the 7900/441. It very well could be that the 441 is more like the 362 than the 361, but I was comparing a much less powerful saw to the 7900 - which for what I'm talking about, makes no sense to do so. But don't get me wrong, I'm VERY impressed with the 441, it's a sweet saw.

But that's why it's kinda silly. Just based on what I know about the 441, it seems to act like the 361 based on what others seem to say.

But I don't actually know.

Interesting observation. I think the 441 has excellent power throughout it's RPM range. With a 20" bar, it's a strong runner. Even when we had the 32" bar on it, it held its power well (coming in only 5 seconds slower than a 660 in a 32" log). I have tried replacing the stock 7-pin with an 8-pin on multiple occasions (20" bar) with different experienced users, and the saw doesn't perform as well with the 8-pin. If the saw was designed (bore, stroke, porting and timing) for HP, then it would explain why it really loses some torque with the 8-pin if you push on it at all and bring down the RPM.

Maybe I'll do some timed cuts. I know the 8-pin is much easier to bog than the 7-pin, but I do not know how to investigate this objectively.

I'd sure like to see Andy's 362 after being Snellerized. Andy, you gonna let him?

I've actually already sent a PM to Andy to see what saw it was that he used for that time. It may have been Niks 361. Check out cut time #18. Perhaps #11 was with a race chain on the 362? I really don't know.

I remember at the beginning of the GTG, Nik told me the 362 beat the 262 in whatever they were cutting at the time. When y'all got to the cants, the 262 beat the 362 by a tenth of a second or something close to that. I'd call it even under race conditions, but I think the 362 had better torque and held its power better in bigger wood.

Lucy is lookin for some action. Wish I could have been there! Plus I could have seen that 362.
