395 Husqvarna Muffler

I am currently trying to put a 395 back together. Tore it down last winter and am finally finding a little time to get it back together. Doing a full rebuild, new p&c, bearings, seals, all new rubber parts etc. The top cover was melted pretty good out towards the front. And the case had a black spot below the muffler outlet. This got me to looking at the muffler outlet. The deflecter in front of the outlet seemed like it would send a small stream of exhaust straight up and straight down. What do you guys think? Am I nuts?

You could be onto something but those top covers usually melt because the rubber bumper is missing from the top of the muffler...
it goes into that hole, p/n is 501 51 54-02

I can see that being a problem on many. but this one still had the rubber.

Of course I added an extra hole under the shield I added!

Just an update. Finally had some more time for reassembly.
