I am wanting to upgrade to a larger saw and wanted some opinions. I cut about 20 cords of firewood a year and was thinking about getting a larger saw. It's between the 441 and 460 they are the same weight but the 460 has more power. Tell what yall think

The 441 is plenty of saw for firewood, If you were a professional logger I would recommend the 460. The 441 has advantages over the 460 such as better fuel mileage and smoother AV. From personal experience I can tell you that I only fuel my 441 once during a day of cutting, and when bucking fireplace size rounds the smoother AV will help with fatigue at the end of the day. I have never felt under gunned with my 441 and have cut down trees that were twice as thick as my bar. I have a standard 441 and don't really need anything bigger even though I have bigger saws.

my 460

I havent been behind a 441 before, but i just got a new 460. And i LOVE it:hmm3grin2orange:. tons of power. it is a little more weight, IMO if your gonna buy a pro saw to cut firewood with, it says alot about you(your like me). If your not afraid of the extra weight get the extra power. I have been thinking of getting mine ported.... just because:rock::rock:

stihlman441,

That is a great video, how much extra money do you have in the moded 441m? also what size bar do you feel you can run on the 441m? how does the 441 hang with a ported 460???
All really great work/firewood saws. btw if your ever in my neck of the woods id like to put my hands on that 441m:biggrinbounce2:

Which One?

Boy, I really like them both, fully ported or in stock form. I own or owned them both in either form. For a great out of the box experience the MS441C (M-Tronic) is a good choice. Closet to a fully ported feeling saw that I have run. The 460 goes without saying. Strong performer and the two weaknesses vs. the 441 are the fuel mileage and air filtration. But put a dual port muffler that has been opened up a bit further and this is got to be one of the best "Old School" saws going. I'll have a new 460R heading here next week for my shelf. They will be discontinued soon, if not already.

Send us some pictures when you choose! Merry Christmas

The C-M version of the 441 is only about $30-$40 more than a standard 441

Unless you're cutting some serious wood...the 441 C-M will cover ya..!!

Well worth it...IMHO..!!

This is a comparision that I really need to make when the wood lines up, the Sawzilla 441 M-Tronic against the Sawzilla 460R. Two distinct different saws the way they run. The M-Tronic is a very catatonic SOB that seems like the jug wants to unbolt itself from the case and kick the S^*T out of the wood! The 460R pulls like a B&O Locomotive Engine, un-assumingly but fast. Can't say at this point which is quicker. But will tell you what I do know, when the 460 needs fuel or the filter cleaned the 441M is still laying wood on the ground and by the end of the day I have never seen a saw put out more production than this saw for it's 70cc size. The 28" bar is a perfect fit for either saw. Sure if a larger bar is needed the 460 may shine a bit more, but still by the end of the day, in normal circumstances, my 441M will prove quite a saw for 70cc.

For production, I feel there isn't any comparison, the 441 will comfortably cut more wood than the 460, and do it more comfortably for the operator. I've used them both in logging and now have 5 441's. Two of which are M-Tronic versions and I wish they were all M-Tronic versions, they are easy to use and very handy.

My experience and opinion,

Sam

I can see no reason not to go 441 M-Tronic. Sure the 460 is a great saw, but the 441C-M has just too many advantages over it. Never being out of tune is like an insurance policy should something get out of wack. Very responsive revver too, especially w' a MM.

Liking my 441M-Tronic!

Haven't ran a 460, but I really like 441M-Tronic, even though haven't got to run it much yet. Supposedly will really wake up after a few tanks.

Sounds angry when cutting too. :msp_thumbup:

Easy starting and never have to worry about tuning it either or taking the chance of running it lean.

As said, great air filtration to boot.

Shoulda got the wrap handle though. Was thinking of a 28" bar (mainly cause it looks cool :msp_thumbsup: ), but probably have to get the high output oiler for mine if I ever did.

Sadly, there isn't much need around here for that big of a bar.. :(
