Tony I have run a mill for the last 20+ yrs and i know that ash is a pain in the ash to cut:D even worse if it is old and dry. I'm just playing around with sprocket and chain combos to see what one I can get to cut the fastest . Jacob gave me the answer I was looking to hear
 
Tony, Your point about different woods is well taken. I must admit that I haven't cut any big dead Ash since switching to an 8 pin on the 268. I did run it through a bunch of locust though and it held speed very well in both, live (no surprise) and dead.
