In one of the arborist trade magazines there is a section called accident briefs. They separate professional and non-professional injuries and deaths. It averages about 6 professional and 6 non-professional deaths per MONTH of people doing some type of tree work. Could be falling off a ladder, electrocution, struck bys, etc. Not the safest activity to be doing or become complacent with.
 
That's entirely possible. This is what gets reported to TCI and they pass it along.
I'm pretty sure the TCIA monthly reports/calendar is based on what their media search finds - not all accidents are reported in the media... that calendar is certainly a good visual though! It certainly gets more difficult to get those stats together as there is not one central all-inclusive database. Not all are reported to OSHA either and not all go through worker's comp (especially if the company wasn't paying in...which I tend to think the "fly by nights" are more dangerous and less likely to be paying workers comp or reporting to OSHA).
