No, He only grabbed a few of these because he wasn’t sure what it was. It was a live tree, per the neighbor.Are all those pieces from the same tree? The background pieces are definitely oak - look at the bark and medullary rays (piece near top right). The foreground piece also has typical bark for the lower trunk of a black oak. The wood is probably paler from being dead awhile.
He hasn’t no issues with our typical sweet gum unless this is even more nasty lol.Gum and he will never split it without dynamite.
I think the bark does yes.It looks like persimmon. I cut a few persimmon trees about a month ago all the stumps have a black tar looking ring around them now. It makes good fire wood.
