That's what I thought at first glance but turn the brightness all the way up on your computer and look at how there is a tint of Red in the Heartwood. Could be Walnut though pics have a way of distorting color.Walnut family.

Well when he posts more pics hopefully later then.Looks like some hickory shell pieces are in the photo, too.
Plus it is nice to zero in on just what kind of walnut it may be.
