Bar wear findings

Just took a look at some of the bars I've got laying around. The total/tsumura has about 20 tanks on it and can't feel an edge forming on the rail. The gb titanium I just got has 6 tanks and the paint is all messed up and I can almost feel a little edge on it. The cannon has maybe 10 tanks and no edge yet. The stihl light bar has maybe 12 tanks and it is about the same shape as the gb.

So to me it seems like the best bargain in bars period is the tsumura bars in whatever brand they were badged.

I just wanted to try the gb and the price was right on one on ebay. It is one with the angled oil hole and says made in australia on it. I would say they aren't a bad bar but not as good as tsumura.

I have not ran the tsumara bar but my orange GB is looking rough. I can see some rail ware on it and the paint is almost all gone. It has maybe 20 tanks threw the saw.

I got a 24" GB protop and it has seen a ton of use and it still has almost all the paint after 8 months. I dont know what the differnce is between the two but it seems like the pro top is in better shape.

The pro tops are supposed to not wear as good as the titanium ones. I haven't run any pro tops but would if a good deal pops up on one. The total bars can be bought pretty reasonable usually.

Tsumura have an excellent reputation here in BC. Most fallers are running them now. Used to be Oregon and Cannon,... not anymore.

I've never used a Cannon bar....waaayyyyy tooo expensive!!!
I thought they must REALLY be great i.e. last forever???

Glad I never spent my $$ to find out!!!

In the long bars I wouldn't shy away from cannon as they seem to wear better than the stihl bars. I'm just impressed with how good the tsumura bar is wearing.

I have a Total that probably has 20 tanks on it and still feels new.
I also have a Carlton two years of firewood duty on a 7900 and it has some slight burring.
I have a Sugihara with probably 40 tanks on a 346 and it is just starting to have a little roll over on the edge.

The Cannon bar I run has held up really well. Living up to expectations. Mind you it's just a 24" item.

I have found the Cannon bar rails to be by far the hardest and wear the best. Next is Stihl and the slightly behind is Oregon but all are good.

The Cannons are made in Canada, the Stihls in Germany, USA, and Brazil, the Oregons in USA, Canada, and Norway.

There are Stihl Australia bars that have been made by in GB in past years

Here in Canada, Stihl bars are rebadged Oregon bars currently.....Up until recently they were rebadged Windsor!

I've never used a GB bar, but have to say that Tsumura and Cannon are the best bars I've ran so far.......The Husqvarna, rebadged Oregon bars have been very poor.

Question.....does the type/quanity/quality of bar oil have any thing to do with bar wear?

How about chain tension and if the chain is sharp?

I'm sure if you run the chain real tight it will wear more. I run mine where it barely touches the bottom of the bar when adjusting it and that's it. It spins pretty free running it like that.

I haven't run Cannon or GB yet, though I would in a heartbeat. So far, as I have stated before, the Sugiharas are without a doubt the best bang for the buck that I have ever experienced. However, they suffer from a disease I will hereby name "Dolmaritis" -- that is, a great product with no dealer support.

I will continue to buy all Stihl products at work, because their dealer network is second to none, and the best dealer ever is a half-hour away. Dealers make or break an operation.

Tsumora and Stihl, hard to tell with anything else these days.

The price of stihl bars turns me away from them. A 20" stihl es was a few dollars more than a 28" tsumura bar.
