Yep, free, relatively speaking, bucking hauling splitting. Beats the ........ out of gym membership though. Plus the btu's confuse WE Energies something fierce which always thrills me. Have not been to the sight yet. Still pulling some Red OAK out of another sight total will be about 1 cord.
 
Beech burns hot and reasonably long. Not as high ash conent as rock maple and comparable burn times and temp. Take all you can get.
 
Beech is good. I cut alot of it and mix it with Hickory which is what I've been cutting the most the last few years.
 
I love me some Beech.. All our hardwoods around here are considered soft hardwoods, so when I get some Beech I hide it so I can burn it on the cold cold nights. If I put it in the pile the wife will burn it when it's mild out just because "it was on top!"
