Best way to restore oxidized plastics?

Checked out some YouTube videos, but after reading through the comments it seems that every way that folks try, it's failed months after. Wondering anyone's had a successful restorations that's lasted? TIA

Following. I heard ultimately you need to sand down to like 4000 wet sand and then reapply a waxing compound.

I like the idea of heating it, helps smooth out scratches and all, but also heard it doesn't stick for too long. We'll see!

I've used a heat gun with great results, short term however, year maybe.

Other products that work:
Penetrol....found in paint section of hardware stores .

Carworx finish restorer.....Amazon.

Thanks for response. I'm thinking I'll go with the heat gun. Sanding is bringing it back a bit. But not getting it anywhere near pleasing to the eye. Bummer

You MUST remove that layer of oxidized plastic. You can then clear coat to get the shine back.

start with 3-400grit and work up to 2000, 3000 then polish. Apply clear coat to give it the nice glossy finish after.

Use rit dye to try and color match it.

Put it one piece at a time in the sink run a trickle of warm water over it an wet sand it .Works pretty good

The wet, then dry, sanding worked great, brought back the color, will get some polish to finish it up!

AND don't use rattle can clearcoat UNLESS it is the 2 part stuff. You need 2-part catalyzed clear to stand up to gas and oil. 1-part stuff is just wasting your time AND money!

I use $100 bills to polish my saws, it seems to do the trick.
