Actually, I looked pretty closely at the 291 when we had it and it's just a different type saw, not much would fit between it and the 290 series, same with the 391-390. Like comparing it with a 346XP, maybe the spark plug would interchange and maybe a few bolts but that's about it...Kinda like the 028 and the MS280, not much fits..

I think Stihl did that to counter the Chinese clone builders...now they have to re-tool for the new saws..

Well, Stihl models interchangeability don't follow much logically. MS270-ms280 are basically the same
028-ms280, not even close. 031-MS310 not even close as well. MSXX0 saws, not even close to any MSXX1 saws.
