We have been hanging our saws in an old oak log for years, now we have been noticing black rusty junk on the bars and chains lately. It's almost like the log is causing the bar and chains to rust and be dyed out, like when you boil your traps with bark to black them. When you pull out the saws they have small moisture beads on the bar and chain where ther has been contact with the wood.
Does the log need to go out and redry or will an old oak log have some wierd thing to it and this type thing just starts to happen for some reason?
Gramps made this log and we would like to continue to use it, but don't want to damage the equipment.
Thanks for any help
