New stuff is not all that expensive. I think I paid about $150 Canadian for a breaker and spinner.

Good thing about this set is it uses the same anvils and punches as the Oregon models, so parts should be available down the line. I know a guy that bought the HF model and could not get replacement parts, so not such a good deal IMO.

There are some older Oregon and STIHL models on eBay, but finding parts for those can also be a challenge.

Order a buch of pre-sets at the same time, to take advantage of the flat rate shipping (shipping costs will kill you later if they are all that you need)!

What are these extra parts you talk of? Also it says I need another piece to work on 1/4" and 3/8 lo pro.

Making chain is something I have never researched but now all of a sudden I need to fix 4 chains.

I have their WoodlandPro version - bought it after seeing it in person when visiting their shop. Happy with it. But this other set is more common, and currently less expensive, so I would go for that one right now.

What are these extra parts you talk of?

Breakers use a punch to drive out the rivets. Made of hard/brittle steel. Sometimes they break. $4 - $8 to replace, but they have to be available. A lot of guys (see threads above) suggest getting an extra one with your breaker. Some breakers use different size punches for different pitch chains.

Spinners use a pair of anvils to hold/form the heads on the rivets from both sides. There are different sizes for different pitch chains. Again, these can wear over time (years), but you want to be able to replace them if they wear or get lost.

Read the information with each set, and ask the seller if you need to buy additional parts for the chains you use, or plan to use, or plan to fix for others! (1/4, 3/8 low pro, .324, 3/8. .4040. 3/4).

Tie straps sneak up on you. You can quickly go through a bunch, especially when you are first learning. I have spent more money on tie straps over the past few years than on the spinner/breaker set! That is why I encourage you to buy a bunch up front, for the chains you plan to spin. There can be differences with pitch, gauge, brand.

Don't want to scare you - it is alot of fun to save, repair, re-size a chain. Look through those threads I posted above.
