I'm the man in my pants.
I'm told it's an ms660 manufactured in 1993 but it doesn't have a badge. The numbers are 11287911000 over 11 and then it has pag/gf. I have no clue as to any of this and all help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks all,
stew...

not sure on the # have a pick

I'm sorry guys, I do not have a picture or even know how to post one. Those numbers came from the bottom of the handle. I'll see if I can get any other numbers.

There should be a serial # by the muffler on the case of the saw, clutch side. Those are the #'s that the guys need to ID the saw I think.

Here's the latest update. I just took it to my STIHL tech and he couldn't tell me definitively what it was either. He's convinced that it is an "O" series saw as well. He retrieved the necessary numbers from inside the saw and called STIHL. Apparantly whoever does this for him at STIHL was at a funeral and will be back later today so he said he should be able to tell me something late this afternoon.
On another note we discussed replacing the bar and going with 404 chain. I told him I wanted this saw to be a cutting beast. I'm not familiar with this chain can anyone tell me about it, I'm also going to search the site.
Thanks,
stew...

you are right.........NO!!!!!

Lighten up. I've been a member here longer than you have. Usually people that bltch at others and pick little wussy arguments over the internet are the types who spend WAAAYYY too much time on their computer. If you ever have the nads to come out to western Montana and discuss this face to face, man to man, I'll be happy do that. Or ... we can go into the woods together and you can watch me outwork you. Otherwise, I'm not going to bother responding to any more little nitpicks at my heals from you.

If your little chart is really that precious, you are welcome to keep it.

And you are welcome to respond with any other "on the rag" comments you like. I'm not going to waste my time responding ... I don't need the last word on this forum ... I'm pretty happy with my life in the real world.

The number given is a part number from the bottom of the back handle/Mix Tank.
The first four digits correspond to a saw family in the Stihl lineup.

1106 = 090
1107 = 07
1108 = 08 S
1109 = 090 G
1110 = 041
1111 = 051, 075, 076
1112 = 041 G
1113 = 030, 031, 032
1114 = 020
1115 = 045, 056
1116 = 015
1117 = 042, 048
1118 = 028
1119 = 038
1120 = 009, 010, 011, 012
1121 = 024, 026, MS 260
1122 = 064, 066, MS 650, MS 660
1123 = 021, 023, 025, MS 210, MS 250
1124 = 084, 088, MS 880
1125 = 034, 036, MS 360
1127 = 029, 039, MS 290, MS 310, MS 390
1128 = 044, 046, MS 440, MS 460
1129 = 020 T, MS 200 T
1130 = 017, 018, MS 170, MS 180
1132 = 019 T, MS 191T
1133 = MS 270, MS 280
1135 = MS 361
1137 = MS 192
1138 = MS 441
1139 = MS 171, MS 181, MS 211
1140 = MS 311, MS 362, MS 391
1141 = MS 261, MS 271, MS 291

Therefore the Tank Handle (at least) from this saw is from the 044/046/MS440/MS460 family.

DING DING DING! We have a winner! My STIHL tech confirmed yesterday that the saw is an ms460. He describes it as being in immaculate condition and I got it for $200.00, sweet deal and runs great. Thanks all for the help.

Sorry but a Stihl tech should have been able to tell what size saw it was just by looking at it. It has its features compared to the 044,MS440 to tell them apart.

Glad that you got a great deal on it and happy cutting.

Yes, I wouldn't trust that "tech" for a second.........:jawdrop:

To the OP - does it have the "flip" type gas and bar oil caps?

No it doesn't have flip caps and in the tech's defense he just recently graduated from STIHL'S training. He has been extremely helpful and told me that he couldn't identify it definitively on sight because he was still learning himself. I give him credit for the lengths that he went to help me and I don't think I'll throw him under the bus, but thanks anyway.
