Just bought a bar and chain set off of e bay,gb brand. The chain is marked A1 on the drivers, only mark.Who made it?This chain is a copy of 72 oregon .Put it on a super XL,REALLY threw big chips.Could it be that this old saw turns slow enough for this to really take a bite?I don't have a bar to try it on one of my Stihls though.:(
Thanks Russ

Just had the chain off my homey EZ auto to run it through the northern sharpener ,all went good , I did notice there were no numbers on the chain at all , I'm pretty sure its 3/8 chain .050 so I went with vise angle of .025 or .030 I forget and 60 degree on the other , my point is , how do you no what these chains are if there not marked ??? Or do you go by the saw and what it came with from the manufacture.

Gentlemen, Gentlemen, Gentlemen.. :)

Here are a couple of links for ya.

Stihl: http://www.stihlcatalog.com/eng

Oregon: http://www.oregonchain.com/tech/ms_manual/ms_manual.pdf

Carlton: http://www.sawchain.com/images/2008-2009%20US%20catalog/ChainNoSystem.pdf

These will tell you about the markings on each brand of chain and how to identify them. For the Stihl chart, you must go to the end of the chainsaw section to get to the chart. Also, I haven't found an easy way to identify Stihl pitch. I just pull out the calipers to ID them.

Hope this helps!
