Do you count strokes when filing?

started out that way and never really let go? dad did it the same way so kinda just the way it is.... like steping off with the right foot hey? lol years of hand fileing you learn alot but still lean to the old ways to keep everything in tune.least now we should be able to sharpen a chain with our eyes closed "woodinyathunkso"....

I think he was joking...

I don't count strokes very often. I just look at the face of the cutter to ensure I'm getting back to fresh metal then guage it from there. Sometimes you swap sides and one side of the file is duller than the other :( You can guage whether the left and right cutter's lengths are even pretty accurately by eye.
Also depends on how good the file is :cheers:
