Dolmette 24 cylinder motorcycle
Filed under: Motorcycle Builders Workshop & Tools Alternative thinking Engines— kneeslider @ 4:08 pm
Sometimes you do it because you can. Here’s a company, Dolmar, that makes chainsaws and they decide to build a motorcycle powered by 24 chainsaw engines, the Dolmette. It’s a blending of reality and a German comic strip character. The result actually runs, though starting is a bit of a chore with 24 pull starters. The power is delivered through a belt drive system that feeds it to a Harley 5 speed transmission. Each engine is 79cc and combined power is 170hp. There’s video on the site. They created a unique motorcycle unlike anything else in the world, driven by 24 professional chainsaw engines. The standard engine was tuned from 6.3 hp to 7.1 hp in order to achieve an overall performance of 170 hp. A clever system of 12 synchronous belts bundles this force and transmits it on to the back wheel, where it is engaged with a huge torque of 400 Nm.
Pretty cool
