I finally went through my saws after sitting since the snow has been here. I noticed that on a couple of my bigger saws, there are chips out on the ends of my bars. They are right at the ends of straight edge before and after the half-circle. Can someone please tell me what might be causing this?

My guess would be either you run the chain too loose or don't sharpen it often enough, or both.

Chipped bar

No, it's not where it slaps. Its right at the tips of the straight edge. Top and bottom. What 'Edge and Engine' said makes sense. Thanks.

Are these hard tipped bars? I have seen some bars do this as well on hard tipped bars. The only thing that comes to mind is stress cracks in the bar where they put the Stellite on the tip and did not stress relieve.
