I have lost a number of my trees the past few years. I am finding the bark gets loose on the trunks and then one branch dies, then the whole tree dies. I pulled back the loose bark on two right now and found a cocoon type substance in it and the area under the bark is black and powdery. I am curious if has the same type of problems with your Cottonless Cottonwood trees or not. If so, have you cured them? I am in Mesa, AZ. Thanks for any help you can offer.

The caccoons probably don't mean much. I find those between fence boards, etc..

Your symptoms describe trees that could have died from half a dozen causes.

Many kinds of trees can show those symptoms after dying from various problems.

You might have to list a substantial explanation of the soil and property conditions, as well as the history of the area over the past few years. Like any changes, how you watered, weather extremes, livestock, herbicide use, etc..
