Does River Birch like Mulch

I have a River Birch that I just put in and I put Mulch around it. Does River Birch like Mulch? I would not want to kill it in any way.

Yes trees hate grass like brown stuff like mulch. But do NOT pile the mulch up the trunk that can cause problems. About 2 inch of mulch is good. Chopped up leaves is also good. This adds nutrients and bio organisms to the soil.

What I have around the tree is wood mulch.
