Dutch Elm

We have an elm that started to turn yellow last year in summer. It is leafing again this summer. Does that mean it doesn't have Dutch Elm? I have been told a tree with Dutch Elm is dead in one season and won't leaf in the next year.

It is leafing pretty much everywhere. How long does it take for a tree to die of Dutch Elm?

I say this because usually when its dutch elm disease you see decline somewhere in the tree. Such as brown patches of branches. Those brown areas should be brown this summer or not leaf at all. If it is dutch elm. Remove it as soon as possible including the stump as this is how the disease spreads. If another trees roots are growing into one with dutch elm it will contact dutch elm disease. Its like HIV for trees.

Yes, since this is a possible serious problem you better call someone out. We can do so much, but this one is case sensitive. Most of the time we can answer the questions fairly accurate.

After they take the tree away and the stump do we need to rake up and get rid of all the sawdust? Also, if we get free wood chips from an arborist of the city do we need to be concerned about diseased trees being in the chips? We do have slippery elms close by, are they suseptable to DED?
