I have a beautiful, full grown live oak in the Texas panhandle. It was super thick this last year, and we enjoyed a relatively mild winter. The last killing frost was well before the typical date of 4/15. My live oak was thick with flowers, and I assumed it would be more beautiful and thick than ever. Now, however, much of it still hasn't leafed out. There is no dieback - there are still tiny buds throughout the tree - but every other live oak around town has fully come out. The only things I did were, a month ago I soaked it in Miracle Grow as always, and applied an anti-scale insecticide to the base of the tree for the roots. Is the tree just acting weird? I never can seem to outguess this tree. Last year we had an awful winter and the thing lost all of its leaves by Christmas, only to have its best stand of leaves in 20 years.
