Right. If it were a bit more phonetic, it wouldn't have been as hard to spell.

Why isn't "phonetic" phonetic?

The duties may include, but are not limited to:


* Climbs trees to inspect for pests, collects pest and environmental samples, and places objects simulating pest injury.

* Coordinates the daily work of climbers assigned to the program from other federal agencies; inspects the climbing equipment of other federal agency climbers to ensure it is in good condition and meets all safety requirements.

* When new infestations are found, incumbent is deployed to the areas to conduct delimiting surveys.

* Collects tree material samples for environmental monitoring of trees chemically treated by commercial tree care companies.

* Climbs trees using a rope and harness (no spurs or spikes); operates and maintains manual and power driven equipment, including aerial lifting devices (bucket trucks), hand saws, knives, axes and log splitters.

* Conducts inventories of trees; identifies trees to species, measures DBH (diameter breast height), and records location of trees using GPS (Global Positioning System) equipment and maps.

* When conditions prohibit climbing, as determined by program management, climbers will be assigned administrative and/or clerical duties associated with ALB eradication efforts.

Qualifications and Evaluations
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
To qualify, you must show you have had training and experience of sufficient scope and quality to provide you with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position. Your answers to the vacancy specific questions must be supported by the work experience in your resume. For example, if you respond in the affirmative when questioned whether you have experience climbing trees, your resume must include this experience, mindful that experience may not be inferred by job title.

Special Conditions:


* U.S. Citizenship.

* Males born after 12/31/59 must be registered with the Selective Service.

* DD214 or other veterans' documents required to receive veterans' preference.

* As a condition of employment, a background investigation may be required for this position.

* Subject to satisfactory completion of one year probationary period.

* Valid state driver's license required at time of hiring.

* Must be in good physical condition. On occasion, lifting objects in excess of 100 pounds may be necessary.

* Uses ropes and harnesses to climb to the top of trees several times per day; trees may vary in size from 15 to 100 feet tall.

* There is danger of falling tree limbs and trees resulting in cuts, bruises and strains; serious injury may result from falling from various heights.

* The majority of the work is performed outdoors in heat and humidity, cold and snow, over public streets and on private property; Poison Ivy is common in work areas; will also come in contact with mosquitoes and other biting insects.

* Must wear and use all necessary safety items and equipment.

* May be subject to overtime, weekend tours of duty and holiday work.

* Travel is required.

* Must attend annual tree climbing refresher training and other training deemed necessary and appropriate for the position.

* Will be required to undergo and satisfactorily pass and subsequently retain an agency provided tree climber certification consisting of a knowledge and proficiency test.

* Will be required to take and pass a physical examination (at government expense) within 10 working days of entering on duty.

* Will be paid an environmental differential at the rate of 25% of base pay, for any day where he/she climbs trees to a height that exceeds 50 feet.
