On the rotary carburetor ( Zama ), which one is the fuel filter side ?

In general, the nipple closest to the fuel pump cover, goes to the filter.

The fuel pump cover is the one held down with 1 screw....

Generally.........

Based on the IPL, it appears to go on the fuel line closest to the body of the trimmer. In other words, if you are facing the back of the motor with the carb on the left and the muffler on the right, the fuel filter goes on the fuel line on the right.

There are only 2 lines--- hook 'em up & pull the rope, if it won't start, just switch them.

On the body of the carburetor it has two nipples: one is thinner then the other.

The nipple next to the motor is the pickup, the one on the outside is the return
