Bake the piston in the oven at about 250* for 15-20 minutes and freeze the pin in the freezer over night. You'll need an insulated glove to hold the piston but the pin will slide right in. Tip the saw on it side.
 
here is the piston pin press...says it is used for all echo models.

miles86, does the Echo tool have a way to keep the parts aligned or do you have to use the tool in conjunction w/ the dowel rod ? Also, does the tool fit multiple saws ? Thanks.

I cant say if Echo has such a tool, but I have the one stihl makes for my ms 440 hopefully I won't need it.
The tool in my case is custom made to use on this saw model, not cheap $ either.

I use the wood dowel method on things like small OPE I rescue from the local shop. It works well enough.
