Gives a guy a new respect for what we porting guys do huh?
Variable speed is your friend.
And lube......
I use a drip of bar oil on my bit. Keeps it clean and shrapnel doesn't fly as far. Keeps the mess local.

I think a variable speed rotary tool will be in my future...
What he means by just jump in and grind is make mistakes. You'll learn more from a mistake or trying something new than being conservative. Trust me I put 12 hours in a saw earlier this year trying new stuff. The crank failed but I learned more from it than I would have if it held together. What I learned was time and effort amount to nothing if you assume something is ok to run. If you see something that doesn't look right it probably isn't. Your bit probably bent because of heat another reason lube is helpful. Take your time keep asking questions and don't be afraid to mess up. Stick to that and you'll be fine. I call Randy once in a while to run dumb ideas by him and he calls me crazy the urges me to try it.
The first saw I ported was an 026 that was given to me.
Then I started doing the cheapest ones I could find.......like Wildthings.....
It's that bad? Am I on the edge for point of no return?

Send me that jug........I'll fix it for free.
Get that jug in the mail first thing tomorrow, that is a offer you dont want to skip out on.
I'm fully aware of that. I've heard countless examples of how much of a stand up guy mastermind is, this is me getting that experience first hand. But I'm still trying to learn myself. Maybe I should try my hand at some less expensive jugs. A bit of disappointment naturally follows. I'll get it...

I'll send it back and you can then hold it in your hand and see what to do. That way when you do your 036.........see where I'm going with this?
