Hello everyone, I am new here. Had a big tree come down on my property and decided we wanted to do something with it. My dad and I looked on here for some tips and tricks. Decided to get a mill and give it a shot. Just have a short clip from today’s milling. I will be doing a video in a few weeks when we can get a log all nice and set up. (Off the ground this time)
A little bonus we are using my dads old Skil 1690. Have a Oregon ripping chain on it with a 36inch bar. We are just starting out, so decided to make some slabs on our first go.
2 1/4 inch by 20inch 7feet long.

Thanks for taking the time to look.

Remember that the wood will shrink, twist and curl.
Some people talks about getting the nicest cut, I will always put it through my planeer/thicknesser "after" its dried, twisted and curled.
So just do your thing and wait at least one year before you decide what to make of it.
I wish you all a good day and stay safe these days.

Thanks for the feed back. Moisture content is already 25%. Limbs and top where dead but the wood is very solid. We have two more 8 footers and then we have a 40 foot that we need to cut in place not sure what we are going to do for length on that piece yet.

Nice 1690, those are pretty sought after by collectors! I've always wanted to compare how one runs against a 090 given that they are about the same displacement.
Milling looks good!

Nice stuff!

One thing though....
In the Vid.... the man on the bar tip end is right in a danger zone.
Although It's unlikely a chain breaks and runs off the tip..... it's not impossible.
Better he's "off target" from the tip end.

Thanks ML12, yeah I have seen it’s a collectors. We wanted to give it a try. We might pick up a different saw if we will keep milling. Just wanted to give it a try. We have more to mill out of this tree. We will need to do this one in place.

Thanks for the tip. It does have a guard on it, I understand what you are saying we will see if we can adjust our cutting a bit. We are going to get the next one up off the ground to make it easier.
