Fungus in bark crevices?

Any thoughts about the white stuff, which seems fairly hard, in the crevices of the bark of a chestnut oak. An internet search did not produce a picture showing similarly specific location of this fungus, or whatever it is. Would you think it has anything to do with the fungus on the ground directly below? Thanks in advance for any help

The mushroom caps on the ground look like Armillaria. Commonly called honey fungus.
