You're probably good to go then. Measure then end gap on the new rings and report back. There are others here that can tell you if it's within the acceptable range.

watch out, you may just make my day...So yours is the vanilla 056, 52mm? Those seem to be more readily available than the 54mm or 56mm. Or, just swap a 54mm P&C on there. There's a guy with a couple for sale. Hang on and I'll look.
yeah, that was my thinking (plastic pad).If you can't find OEM 52mm 056 rings, use 2 OEM Husky 281 rings.
His running a plastic scouring pad over those 051 rings didn't do anything to them. You can't remove enough material with a plastic pad on ductile iron to make it out of round.

if he took off enough material to change the color it can be measured and constitutes as wear. if the polished rings are as good as new with no significant material removed why should he replace the rings?
