I've used helicoils before; they seem to work quite well. Have some saws with stripped threads and figure I need some more.

Question 1 - do y'all prefer helicoils or something else?

Question 2 - is there a set of common sizes that you buy or do you have to buy each set individually?

Question 3 - what sizes do you live to have on hand? I work on a little bit of everything, but the majority of my saws are Stihl.

Thanks in advance for any input.

These are what I use. No special tools required. Tap to M8 thread in, and tap the locking pins in with a small punch.

Thanks for all the input. I'm going to get the Helicoil kit off the link above; I'll still need these for areas that don't have much room for drilling out. I'll order some timeserts, too. And Brad - I'm also going to try some of the ones that you pictured.

If you helicoil something like a TS420 cutquik, get the 2D or 3D extra long 5mm inserts. (5m x 2D or 5m x 3D)
