I recently added Hard scape all around my front yard, specifically I put a 10' diameter 2.5' tall planter around my Chinese Elm .
I planted this tree 11 years ago and it is now 20'-25' tall and beautiful.
I have not filled up the planter with soil as I am uncertain of the effect it will have on the tree.
A little late for thinking about this I know, none the less I am concerned I will kill the tree by filling the planter with soil based on some comments made by a friend.
The soil i would add will be up to 2 feet above the ground level where it has been for 11 years.

Will this effect the tree???

I live in southern California zone 9B in Orange County

Any advice or knowledge you could send my way would be appreciated:msp_unsure:

This is not very clear.Close to the tree?Under the canopy? Are you saying ''around''meaning encircling the trunk?
