The pictures below are from a shrub sized plant growing in the fence rows here on my farm in North Alabama. The blooms have a strong, pleasant fragrance, and my honeybees are really working the blooms.

Any help you can give in identifying it would be greatly appreciated.

Are the leaves silvery on the underside?

If so, Eleagnus sp. which does smell sweet but is a noxious weed in many areas.

Thanks! After plugging Eleagnus into google I found several hits. It looks like there are several varieties of Eleagnus ( or Elaeagnus), and the one I have looks a lot like Elaeagnus umbellata (aka autumn-olive) right down to the red berries that they bear later in the season.

They are aggressive. They are quite abundant in my fence rows. My bees really like the blooms, and the birds really seem to like the fruit.
