Ill have to check them out! I was reading that the PTO bearing is proprietary, but looks like theres a plethora of aftermarket bearings out there

The PTO on all Stihl saws are proprietary (at least all the saws I have split to replace). The flywheel side bearing of the 066 should be a 6203-C3. It can be purchased at your local bearing supply house. I would purchase a name brand SKF, or FAG (there are probably many more brand names). I just split and put together a restored 066 later edition. I bought the PTO bearing at the dealer, and the flywheel side at the bearing house as mentioned. That is not to say there are no aftermarket PTO type bearings available. I have not been able yet to pull the trigger on any. Most of the threads I have read from reputable builders here have weighed in on the side of OEM bearings on the PTO side. Just my observation.

I have no experience with aftermarket PTO bearings in any saws I have rebuilt or ones that I am running.
I intend to try a PTO bearing on a build I have coming up, perhaps if I can remember I will report on it then.

I'm not trying to be disagreeable, but hl told me they are not OEM. How/why can they sell a set for 30 bucks and the PTO size alone is 50 at the dealer?

The 066/660 bearings that I sell are the exact bearing HL Supply sells. The PTO side is an OEM bearing and the flywheel side is a generic bearing from any bearing supply house.

According to my bearing supplier, it is. The only one I've seen is the non branded Chinese copy.
I'd love to know more.

It's been a little while since I looked at these. One was OEM Stihl and the other a general bearing for the flywheel side, but IIRC the price was more like $70. I'll have Henry run this to ground.

I've been running an aftermarket PTO side bearing in my rebuilt 046 for two years now, and the saw has been run hard on a full-time snag-falling/hazard tree contract on Federal lands. I haven't had an issue with it yet and I've abused the saw thoroughly. I run Nachi bearings in the PTO side of my Stihls and in both sides of my Husqvarnas/Jonsereds. The Nachi bearings made in Japan are extremely high quality. Another great player in generic-sized bearings is SNR.

Nachi is top notch. I also use nsk if I can verify where they were made. I never purchase a set of factory bearings.

My 064 is getting after markets. I know everyone thinks I'm a schmuck for cheaping out, but... Well... I am.

I buy and sell old stocks from various companies.. I usually have some on hand. They are available on ebay and other online sources.

Soooo.. I got a set of aftermarket bearings today and figured I'd show a pic or two. Looks just like the ones on hlsupply. These were not from either of the mentioned dealers. I'll probably use a better bearing for the 6203 just because...

These were $10 with seals and piston pin bearing.

I am planning an all aftermarket 660 build . Just about have all the parts. It should be interesting. May be a turd but will have about 500 less than what a new one costs invested.

I'm real interested in that build. Was planning one as well but you may have saved me the $300 dollars! I'll just have to do something else....are you going to video document the experience??

eBay is a good place to get a sense for bearing prices, I just got a bunch of Nachi 6202 c3's for $6 bucks a pop. I built a "Huztl" 372 last winter with all AM parts except the cases and used as much Huztl as possible for kicks..... Its run well and has done a lot of work this year with no issues so far. huztl bearings and seals too. Even though.. still recommend OEM from your local dealer if your a pro and depend on that saw.

The aftermarket bearing for the PTO side of the 066 is available in that model and the OEM bearing was dropped as these are a good substitute and a signification price reduction. We sell aftermarket parts and would prefer to do that in most every case. We carried the OEM bearing because there was no suitable sub, there is now and it will be carried whenever possible.

I get the bearings from the same guy HL Supply does and have relisted the 066 bearing we sell to reflect that they are aftermarket. We've had no issues with the flywheel side aftermarket that was supplied in the bearing set, I'd expect the same performance from the PTO side as well, same maker.

May not be what you wanted to hear, but I'd have to agree... we sell aftermarket stuff, if I sold OEM stuff, I'd have to compete with every dealer or just be a dealer and then that would eliminate me from selling on-line.
