I have what i believe is a plum tree in the front yard. The fruit looks more like a cherry, but tastes like a plum. It has the red foliage. In any case, it's something prunus.
When we moved in to the house three years ago, this tree was obviously in a weakened state and infested with scale like I've never seen. I physically rubbed many of them off with a cloth and then treated it. I've been able to keep the scale in check and it bounced back nicely the second summer. Last summer it got hit by some type of borers on the side of the tree that receives a lot of weather. I recently noticed that the bark is peeling around those sites where the borers had their holes.
What can I do to make sure that the tree does not deteriorate any further? what sort of steps should I be taking at this point?
