Looks like Sassafras,burns good but throws sparks pretty bad.
:agree2:..... Sure looks like sassafras to me.....We have a lot of it on our property and it cuts like a hot knife through butter.

locust. color, bark, even rings look right. if you have your chain good and sharp on a bigger saw you can fly through locust. we have a lot around here.
Did it smell like "root beer" when you cut it?
Locust have many small thorns on the branches and twigs as well.
I look that one up thanks. I don't remember a smell at all.
The only thing left of it was the trunk.
well to refresh you locust =yellow, deep bark, burns slow and hot and smells a Little funky. does it fit?
Fits fine, I'm not very good with the trees just taking all the info in.
locust will last 200 + years and is a lighting rod that's why you see them at very old homes tom trees
