The OP's truck is a Titan. I think Nissan stopped making them, but other manufactures make bed extenders also.

Yes, I think the Titan came with it. Maybe another smaller truck did also.

It was the explorer sport trac. Not a truck, a little suv.

It is a Bed Extender, standard pickup accessory. I’ve gotten them on all my pickups for years. You can either take them off, they just lift out, or flip them back in to the bed when not in use. I usually keep mine flipped back in the bed and use it as a divider. I can carry my gas, etc, back as far as possible from the cab. You have to have bed rails to attach them to. Be advised that on some trucks, like a Tacoma I had, the extender bolts to just one position where when extended it goes out over the tail gate. On Nissans the Extender will slide up and down the bed (hope that made sense).

I wouldn’t used it for anything heavy tailgates aren’t made to be load bearing . Saw a guy drop a load of block that was on the tailgate with one of those extenders . Center of the gate bent into a V shape and the cables mounting points broke off
