Well i got away from the yellow saws for awhile.
I finished my last Mac 797 last night.
Today i had some time so i have been wanting to
get this Homelite 3100 Geardrive up and running.
This saw came from a fellow member and i bought
it off ebay. Was described as needing a new top end.
So i disected this beast and found a broken ring.
It will indead need a cylinder and piston. So i have
decided to give this saw the full blown restoration.
Paint and all. I should have all the necessary parts
to get it up and running without waiting for much.
You can see in the one pic there is a piece of ring
missing. Notice the gearcase cover says 1130 but it
must have been changed at one time.
I will keep you guys posted as work continues.

Lee,

I am sure you are already bead blasting but that gear cover paint/decal looks too good to remove.

Lee- another great thread and build. Is the piston not salvageable?

No Jacob, The piston is toast. Has a good gouge
and the ring land is damaged.

I agree Bill, This cover is going on another 1130 i have.
I have a spare to paint for this saw.

Another great project Lee. Will be another interesting and rewarding thread for all of us to follow. Those 797's look a treat, and I am sure that this 3100 will be no exception.

Good luck with the project and I look forward to following your progress.

Regards,

Chris.

Had some time this week and got all parts
bead blasted. Had to repair some minor pitting.
Today was a beautiful sunny day so i took advantage
and got all parts painted.

What paint are you using ? I have a 450 I'd like to restore.

I get the paint a Napa auto parts.
It's Martin Senour products.
Single stage urathane. It's a bit pricy
but i have it down now where i can paint
3 saws with one quart of paint plus the
reducer and activator.

Oh man you weren't kidding when you hinted about this one a while ago. I won't bother saying my usual comment this time...

I take it the Martin Senour products paint you use stands up well to oil and gas? Does that saw have the 2/1 or 3/1 gear stet?
