I love my little MS150 but was curious to see how the newer MS151 was different, or even possibly better. Interested in the condensed version? The MS151 looks to be identical to the MS150 with only a couple small exceptions. The 151 is said to have a domed piston. I won't be tearing it down that far to get a look at it. The muffler outlet is a little bigger. And the carb and coil have different PNs, although identical visually.

In all cases, the 151 is on the left, or the first picture.

Empty, bare powerhead only. Only 0.2 ounces difference in weight.

Identical except for the muffler outlet.

Initial impression on first startup...

The MS151 has much better throttle response and spool up than the MS150. The MS150 was very cold natured, very difficult to even get it to take any throttle at all at first. Grant it, this is a sample of one and could likely be tuned out. However, I wanted to test these just like they come out of the box.

Once the muffler was modded and the ignition was advanced, the MS150 is an ENTIRELY DIFFERENT SAW. Throttle response become INSTANT. My local tree guy considers them nearly useless stock, loves them once they have these simple mods. We'll be seeing how the MS151 compares with the same mods. Videos will be coming later in the week.

Yeah, the only way to get any action here is to show a saw built out of aftermarket parts (haters will come), engage in good natured banter (haters will come), or post in the off topic section (it will turn into political stuff, then name calling). I'm watching, though. I love looking through your old build threads, they are so detailed I feel like I'm looking over your shoulder while you work. I'm also bummed out I didn't get a chance to have you port one of my saws, unless you want to briefly come out of retirement?

Yeah. Used to be you had to switch back and forth between pages to not miss an answer. Take out the oil threads and .....
