Is this normal

Across the bridge.
Bought two Oregon powermatch plus bars, one is a 20 inch and the other is a 28 inch. The 28 inch is split at the bottom, this seems like it would make the bar weaker. Both are for a stihl. Is this a defect or a normal thing and why would they split it.

It's going on a stihl, so it's ok if it is weaker! :p
I just picked up a 32 inch bar for my Husky and it is the same way. I am curious as to why also.

I've seen some bars basically like that but without the lips that turn in on various saws and it doesn't appear to make a difference. I would venture to guess since it's behind the side cover and at the back of the bar there should be no impact on bar strength as the nuts hold it in place and the bars are basically just a guide to make the chains do the work they are cut out for. :eek:
